When did the Church vows change?

Hello Vicar,

As is custom in Anglican Church weddings, the Declarations of Consent are worded according to the liturgy.

I assume that when Catherine Parr married Henry VIII, her declarations were according to the liturgy, so she vowed:

“…to be bonaire and buxom in bed and at board.”

Obviously this phrase is not stated in today’s wedding ceremonies, but when did the liturgy change to the current version?

I appreciate your time and attention and look forward to your answer.

Sincerely,

Laura

Oh my goodness I have no idea! It sounds like Gerry Hall’s comment about women needing to play one role in the kitchen and a completely different one in the bedroom…

The church changed a lot of things during the Victorian era – and I’m sure that one would not have passed them by

Fantastic question Laura – I’ll see if any other clergy know the answer
    kind regards
    Jan
